The extractor is the claw on the right side of the breech face that grips the case rim and pulls the spent case out of the chamber. It is a small part that causes large problems: a worn or wrongly fitted extractor produces failures to eject, brass to the face, and erratic ejection patterns.
How fitment works
Extractors are calibre-specific because the case rim differs, and generation-specific because Gen 5 changed the design. Many are also loaded chamber indicator (LCI) parts, with a raised tab that lets you feel whether a round is chambered — an LCI and non-LCI extractor are not interchangeable if you want the indicator to work as intended.

Choosing and fitting
If you are chasing an ejection problem, replace the extractor depressor plunger assembly at the same time — the spring and bearing behind the extractor are as likely to be the cause. Fit OEM unless you have a specific reason not to; this is not a part where novelty pays.
