The slide lock is the small sprung bar above the trigger guard that retains the slide and barrel assembly on the frame. You pull it down to field strip the pistol. It is not the slide stop lever — that is the separate part on the left side that holds the slide open on an empty magazine, and the two are routinely confused.
How fitment works
Fitment mostly splits standard frame versus slim frame. The 43, 43X and 48 use a narrower slide lock that will not interchange with the double-stack guns. Extended versions give you more surface to grip, which makes takedown easier with cold or wet hands.

Choosing and fitting
Keep the extension modest. A slide lock that protrudes too far can be pushed down under recoil or by a tight holster, and an unlocked slide assembly is a stoppage waiting to happen. After fitting, rack the pistol hard several times and confirm the lock stays seated.
