What’s New in the Glock Gen 6
Improved Grip Texture
The Gen 6 ships with a more aggressive grip texture than any previous generation. Glock cut the grip pattern deeper and wider. It runs across the front, back, and sides. As a result, the gun stays firm under heavy fire, in the rain, or with gloves. Previously, many shooters added aftermarket grip tape or professional stippling to their Gen Glocks. In fact, the Gen 6 grip does the same job right out of the box.
Flat-Face Trigger
The factory flat-face trigger is the most talked-about change in the Gen 6. For Glock’s full generational history, read our Glock V-series explainer. Glock now uses the flat trigger shape that Sig Sauer and CZ have sold for years. The aftermarket has sold it for years too. The flat face gives you a more repeatable grip on the trigger. Consequently, you get a cleaner break and a faster reset. The Gen 6 also has less pre-travel. Overall, it is the best stock Glock trigger yet. Match shooters will still want to swap the connector. However, the starting point is much better than before. However, the Gen 6 starts much higher than past models.
Single-Piece Guide Rod
Glock went back to the single-piece guide rod with the Gen 6. For a full breakdown, see our guide rod upgrade guide. Gen 4 and Gen 5 pistols used a dual captive spring setup. It worked, but the design was more complex. Also, it was harder to upgrade. Moreover, it was less friendly to the aftermarket. The Gen 6 single-piece rod mirrors the Gen 3 design approach. However, it fits an updated spring weight tuned for modern defensive ammo. NDZ makes Gen 6 guide rods from hard tool steel with a Cerakote coat. They drop right in with no extra work. Gen 6-Specific Frame Dimensions

Notably, the magazine well, slide lock channel, and magazine release housing all changed. Many Gen 1–5 parts still fit. However, certain components require Gen 6-specific versions. For instance, this affects pin kits, slide lock levers, magazine releases, and back plates. Always check fitment by generation before you order. Gen 6 Guide Rod Assembly
Our Gen 6 guide rod assembly comes in multiple spring weights. For example, you can tune the recoil impulse of your G19 Gen 6 for a lighter defensive load or a heavier matches round. Extended Slide Lock (Gen 1–6 Compatible)
The NDZ extended slide lock gives you more surface for one-hand use. It fits all Glock frames from Gen 1 to Gen 6. It takes under ten minutes and requires no gunsmithing. Gen 6 Hybrid Magazine Release
The Gen 6 hybrid magazine release offers extended reach and positive tactile feedback. Specifically, it makes mag drops faster and cleaner. NDZ engineered it to the updated Gen 6 frame dimensions. Gen 6 Magazine Base Plate
NDZ Gen 6 magazine base plates are laser-engraved from aircraft-grade aluminum. They snap onto Gen 6 mags with no tools needed. Furthermore, they add a grip point for fast mag strips. Options include plain, American flag, military, and custom text. Shop Gen 6 Mag Plates
The Gen 6 made four big changes from the Gen 5. First, it has a flat-face trigger with a better break and reset. Second, the grip texture is much rougher for better control. Third, Glock went back to the single-piece guide rod, like the Gen 3. Fourth, key frame areas were resized, such as the mag well and slide lock channel. Gen 6 guns come in the G17, G19, and G45.
Many Gen 1-5 parts still fit the Gen 6 frame. But some parts need Gen 6 versions due to new frame sizing. These include guide rods, mag releases, slide lock levers, pin kits, and back plates.
